2.50mm chrome plated Flat link Check Chain collar made by Herm. Sprenger in Germany; these chains are available in sizes 35cm 40cm, 45cm, 50cm, 55cm, 60cm & 65cm. This product is part of our Specialised range of chain collars, the flat link style has a flat surface apparantly "filed" onto the top & botom of each link, this causes the chain to catch the light as the dog moves around presenting a "jewelled" appearance, often used for dog showing & just as often used by doggie show-offs; the 2.50mm (wire diameter) Chrome plated steel collar is recommended for medium dogs similar in size/strength to the Collie or Kelpie.
To calculate the correct size Check Chain for your dog, please measure the diameter around your dog's neck just behind the ears with a tape measure & add 5cm to this measurement; choose a chain that is this size or slightly larger (please note that Sprenger check chains measurements include the end rings). With some dogs the width of the head can present difficulties with fitting your collar (e.g. Bull Terriers), if you are concerned that this may be a problem measure the diameter of the largest part of your dog's head (over the base of the ears) and check that your chosen size of collar is larger.

Whereas other manufacturers only dip the chains before plating, Sprenger uses a different procedure of mirror-bright polishing followed by dipping to remove non-metallic oils & greases from the chains. The advantage of this polishing is that the surface becomes much smoother and has a special bright shine, it is only then that it is first nickel then chrome plated; the grip of the nickel layer is tested by "bending” before the chains are finally chromium plated.

Flat link chains give a "jewelled" look, making the collar particularly attractive & very suitable for show dogs and those canines that want to look good around town; these collars are not recommended for long haired or soft coated dogs.

Dipping means to remove non-metallic unclean things like oil from the chains. The metal becomes clear but has no surface polishing. The advantage of our polishing is that the surface becomes much smoother and has this special bright shine. After tumbling, the chains are nickel or chrome plated. Our nickel and chrome baths are monitored permanently by a laboratory. Sprenger examines the grip of the nickel layer through ,, bending” tests before the chains are chromium plated.
