This Chain Leash is 80cm long and is made of 3mm (wire diameter) satin chrome plated steel of the standard round link by Herm. Sprenger in Germany. The 18mm wide loop handle is made from riveted Leather and is coloured "anthracite"; the snap is the "Sprenger scissor" style, this operates by pressing the two sides together making the snap open very easily & quickly, release is very quick and needs only slight pressure on the two side, conversely pulling on the snap forces the jaws together using a "cam" action that makes it nearly impossible to open when your dog is pulling.

Sprenger's quality control starts with the right choice of wire, their specifications are very strict, the wire must satisfy their stringent strength & flexibility requirements. The wire is electro-welded into the raw chains which are constantly checked for breaking strain before plating; Sprenger's Chrome plating process is noted for its smooth & durable surface, how do they do it? Whereas other manufacturers only dip the chains before plating, Sprenger uses a different procedure of mirror-bright polishing followed by dipping to remove non-metallic oils & greases from the chains. The advantage of this polishing is that the surface becomes much smoother, it is only then that it is first nickel then chrome plated; the grip of the nickel layer is tested by "bending” before the chains are finally chromium plated. A small modification in the chrome plating process produces the attractive & durable "matt" finish called Satin Chrome. The surface is as strong as you would expect from Sprenger's normal chrome surface; the plating neither becomes shiny nor breaks off.
